So, I had the pleasure of experiencing musical goodness when I got Erykah Badu’s mixtape, But You Caint Use my Phone, on 11/27 (actually due to the pandemonium on Apple, I didn’t get it until 11/28). It officially dropped on Apple Music on midnight of Black Friday. I had to join Apple Music first, since I hadn’t already had it. This serves as a perfect opportunity to try out Apple Music and see if I like it better than Spotify. If I do, I’ll possibly cancel my subscription with them, and head over to Apple (probably have to do some consulting, since I share the account with 2 other people lol).
ANYWHO, back to the purpose of this post. I got a chance to listen to the mixtape this weekend, and I must say it was AMAZING! I listened to it from beginning to end, with no skips. That is a big thing for me, because if I’m not sure if I’m feeling something, I’ll skim through the songs just to get to the end and then do a quick judgment call on whether or not it will stay on my phone. Not with this one, though. I listened to every minute of every track and loved it! I’m a big fan of Ms. Badu, and in my opinion, one of the best soul artists out there. She had the remake of Hotline Bling, named Cel U Lar Device, that had previously been released, with 10 other tracks that you have no choice but to nod your head to. The last track on the mixtape, Hello, which features the talented Andre 3000, is pretty great also. That song was the biggest hit amongst the social media world, since Andre is Erykah’s former love. Personally, I think an album with both of them might be the most epic thing to hit the airwaves (I wonder can we petition for that to happen? Lol).
All in all, I’m thoroughly satisfied that I pulled out all the stops to get this mixtape. I don’t think I could have waited another week (it’s dropping on other streaming sites on 12/4) until I could find it somewhere else. I’m excited that Erykah dropped this mixtape because I am a fan of her work, and I hope this is a preview of more greatness to come from her!
