Revamping the Workout Plan

20150422_223352So, I must admit that I was beginning to get a little discouraged once I realized my body had plateaued AGAIN, at a weight that I was not pleased with.  What really made it sting was when I looked at my husband’s before and after pics from this time last year to now.  It made me feel like men really sucked. I work my ass off in the gym, just as hard or if not harder than him sometimes, and his weight is just falling off; meanwhile, mine is stuck to me like glue.  I decided that enough was enough, and I am going to buckle down and do some research and figure out what I need to do to make my body match the effort I’m putting out.

In order to get to the root of everything, I decided to run to my trusty friend Google, to try and find some legit sites that I can find some information on.  I read one article (more like a thread post from a forum of some sort) with a person with the similar problem; they have been working out for months, and the scale is not moving.  Almost everyone replied to that person saying “you’re diet is off.”  Pretty much every person also stated to try counting calories and keeping a food journal of everything you eat to get a visual picture of what food and types of calories are going into your body.  I have tried a food journal, and I realized that I was eating somewhere around 1400-1500 calories a day, but there were a few things wrong with that. First, my diet was far from perfect, meaning breakfast was crap, lunch and dinner were big meals when I really prefer smaller ones, and I would overcompensate for one meal by loading up on calories in the next meal. Second, when I really looked at the food I was eating, it didn’t really have any significant carbs, protein or fiber (which I read helps in fat loss).  Basically, I was just eating to say I was eating and the food I was choosing wasn’t really healthy or beneficial for me.  I found out the hard way that the saying is true; You cannot outwork a bad diet!

I recently decided that I would attempt (for the 10th time, LITERALLY the 10th time lol) to count my calories.  It is definitely something I have done before, but this time, I plan on being more knowledgeable of what I am actually counting them for and what the numbers really mean.  So far, I realize that my body needs to go into a calorie deficit to lose weight, and that I need to burn more than I eat. I have read several different articles, so I am still in the learning phase, but I think now that I am gaining knowledge on this tedious task, it makes me more motivated to actually put some effort into it.  Now that I have realized the science behind true weight loss, I think I’m on the right track.

I’m hoping to begin seeing a change in my body, especially as much work as I have been putting in.  I noticed that there are certain goals I want to accomplish with my body and I was noticing that things were not really changing.  I took a minute to research and regroup and this is the starting point for me.  When you count calories, you cannot half-step it.  No cheating because it only hurts you in the long run.  I am still going to do a food journal and also write down my workouts so that I can compare and make sure I am improving in strength.  My mom is currently in workout mode also so I definitely want to help her because we work too hard in the gym to not see the fruits of our labor. Lol.  I wouldn’t say I have a specified plan right now; just to eat better, get in my workouts and stay positive!!
