Remembering to Find the Calm

These last two days have been riddled with high levels of anxiety. They kind of came out of nowhere in a sense that I typically do not suffer from anxiety this high. There have just been very overwhelming feelings of worry and stress over somethings that have recently occurred between work and my personal life.

I’ve found some level of peace and calm through meditating every night. I’ve found that my meditation has helped me to be a little more calm prior to me going to bed, but I’ve tried to make it a point to take at least 20-30 minutes of guided or silent meditation to ease my anxiety and calm my mind. So far I’ve been pretty successful and had some very restful nights!

If anyone else is having rough days, I urge you to try taking a few minutes in the evening time and set yourself up with time to meditate.

Your spirit will thank you 🖤🧘🏾‍♀️.

My October Affirmation List

For the month of October, roughly one month before my birthday, I took on a task of creating affirmations everyday that I use to motivate and keep myself positive.

So far, I’ve made 24 affirmations (2 per morning) and it feels really good. I have an app that I use to take words from, and from those words I create my own affirmations to keep with me throughout the day. I may write it down, put it on my lock screen or just go back to my notepad during the day. So far, it’s been helping; I can tell my attitude is slowly turning around. At the end of the month, I may reveal my list of affirmations, so hopefully someone will be inspired to utilize an affirmation, or take on the challenge for themselves.

I hope we all continue to push through this month and soak in as many positive vibes as possible! Find an affirmation you love and hold on to it for peace, love, strength, happiness, or whatever you may need that day!

Self-Care Sunday Highlight: Lets Get Away…

This week’s highlight is dedicated to something I absolutely LOVE doing: Vacationing!

At some point, we all need a break; whether it be a stay-cation, a trip with a special someone, a boys/girls trip or a family vacation; everyone needs time to escape reality sometimes. That’s why taking a vacation is so important to your self-care.

Taking vacations allows you to get a couple of days away from the factors of life that are causing you the most stress. There’s nothing like getting away and clearing your mind so you can hit the “restart” button. You can get some much needed rest, you can relax and not worry about what’s going on at home for a little while and sometimes, that is the best feeling.

This summer I wasn’t able to take many vacations, which is what I like to do, but I am definitely an advocate for it and I plan on taking a few in the fall! I love going on trips and I take full advantage of them when I got. I don’t talk about work, or things that are bothering me; I just spend those precious moments laughing and having timeless fun.

This week, if you’re able, schedule yourself a vacation, or look up somewhere you’ve wanted to go and start planning a vacation. They are well-deserved and much needed! Plan a trip and focus all of your attention on having fun and forgetting about all of your troubles (at least for a couple of days).

Self-Care Sunday Highlight: Free for All!

Today I didn’t have a specific highlight for Self-Care Sunday, but I wanted to reflect on how hectic my week has been and how important self-care will be for me today.

I’ve had stress, tension and all kinds of emotions coming at me from every direction this week, and it’s caused me to neglect some of my favorite self-care techniques!  I feel so bad because I haven’t taken a single moment for myself and every time I say I will, I end up doing something else for someone else, or doing something for work the just gets me all wound up again.

So, tonight, I’m going to make SURE I get my work done in a decent time frame, get the kid settled down and then take some much needed and much anticipated me time this evening.

This week, even though I’m not highlighting anything specific, I encourage you to look back on some of the highlights of self-care, pick one and apply it to life this week.  Don’t let life’s stressors overwhelm you and take you out of your routine and peace!

The Christmas Tag!!!

“Chestnuts roasting, on an open fire……” 🙂

So, today I’m feeling real holly and jolly today (possibly because of the Christmas  party we are having at work today).  As an extension of my holiday cheer, I am going to do the Christmas tag for you all!  I will have the questions down at the bottom of the post for anyone else who wants to do this!!  So, lets get it!!

  1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?

My favorite Christmas movie…?  Actually, Nothing Like the Holidays is my favorite Christmas movie.   I don’t know how I stumbled upon  this movie a couple years ago, but ever since,  I HAVE to watch it at least 3 times during the Christmas holidays!  My favorite line?

  1. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Christmas morning!  And I am definitely someone who will be up at the crack of dawn (even before my own toddler), ready to open gifts.  Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays, and now that I am a mother.  I am enjoying more of watching my daughter and nephew open their gifts and see the joy on their faces for the holiday.

  1. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

There is a video of my daughter and my nephew’s first Christmas, where they were wearing matching onesies.  My nephew was playing drums, and my daughter was dancing.  It was classic Kynn and Preston, and I loved it.  I think that is the year we knew they completely enjoyed their Christmas.

  1. Favourite festive food?

I LOVE turkey and dressing, with cranberry sauce and giblet gravy.  That is my all time favorite combination at holiday time.  That and apple pie for dessert.  And let’s not forget the wine 🙂 ….

  1. Favourite Christmas gift?

I don’t know if I have a favorite Christmas gift.  What I enjoy the most is when someone gets me something that they KNOW I will love; or if they take the time to get me something that I specifically asked for or casually mentioned in passing conversation.  Thoughtful gifts  are the way to my heart.

  1. Favourite Christmas scent?

Ehh, I don’t have a specific scent, but I know when I start to smell cinammon, apple or vanilla type scents,  I am knee deep into the holiday season!

  1. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

No Christmas Eve traditions, although I would like to develop one for my daughter.  I know she will want to make cookies for Santa and write a note.  I also may let her open one gift the night before. 🙂

  1. What tops your tree?

Right now, a star.  I want to get a really pretty angel like my grandmother has on the top of her tree.  It’s gorgeous!

  1. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

I’d have to say I was pretty blessed.  I can’t think of anything I asked for that I never got for Christmas or at one point in my life. I also have gotten older and don’t ask for much; Im in a season in my life where I’d rather give than receive.

  1. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Spending time with my family and friends. Period.  I have always loved Christmas because I knew that  was the one holiday of the year that everyone will come together for a day and be joyful and laugh and have fun.  As everyone has grown, we have  all made our own new traditions, but one thing that I will never  give up is  having the ones I love the most with me on Christmas.

Here are the question for you to answer.

  1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
  2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
  3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
  4. Favourite festive food?
  5. Favourite Christmas gift?
  6. Favourite Christmas scent?
  7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
  8. What tops your tree?
  9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
  10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Because Sometimes I Long for Peace

Sunset in Punta Cana

My mom sent this picture while she was on vacation, and I thought it was the best representation of what I desired at this moment.
To be in a calm environment, with no other signs of life around; just being in my presence, silencing my mind and enjoying my own little taste of uninterrupted tranquility.

One day, I’ll be in a position where this can be my everyday life.  Until then, I live with the insanity that is my life.

Pray for this World

I have noticed that there are a lot of things going on in the world today. Not to mention, many people are trying hard to make people feel insignificant in what they support and don’t support.  If you support one thing, you are no longer supporting something else and if you are standing for one thing, you are standing against other things.

Can someone please answer me as to when did it become unacceptable to stand for and support more than one thing?

I just don’t understand people sometimes….*sigh*
