How much do you value your worth?

And if you do not hold much value to yourself, how do you expect anyone else to?

I’ve had a hard time channeling my worth and purpose. Sometimes when I ask the questions of myself, I cannot find an answer. Such is life. Sometimes life can get you so down or so low and dark, that you cannot find the answers to the burning questions of your soul-search.

This is where the work comes in. Not just outer work, but the inner work. The work that requires you to make hard choices, and make the uncomfortable revelations of self. You have to really sit with yourself and find the answers you seek; and sometimes, not having the answer could be the key to a journey that you need to take in order to get to the root of why you do not have those answers.

We all have a purpose on this earth. Something makes you happy; something makes you want to get out of the bed in the morning. Even if it is to ensure your bills are paid and there is a roof over your head, there is purpose to your life. Remember your purpose and remember why you wake up in the morning.

Do the work to remember your worth. Don’t let anyone make you believe that you don’t deserve to know your worth and then add tax. Also, do not go through life believing that valuing your worth and allowing others to value your worth does not require you to do the work it takes to be seen as such. No one will know your worth if you don’t make it known. The real work begins within, and then shines through you.



Stop Playing Small

In light of new resolutions, goals and plans for the new year, when making that outlined list of what we will throw our efforts into, we often play small. Playing small means to play it safe; to settle for what is secured and safe for our egos to withstand. Playing it big means going out for the big fish, the grand opportunity; the one that oftentimes scares us the most.

So instead of going for those big opportunities, we go for the easily attainable ones, the ones that don’t offer much disappointment, the ones that make you feel like you’re settling; because most times you are.

Do you think this is acceptable; going for the option to settle instead of going for what you truly want in life? Well, I’m here to tell you it’s not. It doesn’t feel good to see others getting what they want and wondering what you’re doing wrong. Most times, the thing you’re doing wrong is that you’re not going after what you truly want out of life. One thing I’ve learned is that the only thing stopping you from what someone else has is effort and faith that you can achieve all you set out for yourself, no matter how big the goal.

So, for 2019, don’t play yourself, and don’t settle for the small things, when you can go for your big dreams. The only thing standing in your way is you.


A letter to 2019.

I went through some very interesting circumstances this year; some that I’ve never been through before, some even that I have barely been ok enough to talk about. I wasn’t always being 100% for the important people in my life. I wasn’t present for a lot of people I love this year. I wasn’t present for myself. I didn’t set boundaries like I talked about, and I allowed people to take me for granted. I started to question things that I’ve learned, and things I’ve adapted to and wondered if they truly were for me. I was blessed to see another 365 days, and I pray I see another 365 more.

I wanted to make mention of the things that didn’t go quite right for me, in order to set myself up to be more motivated to make sure I don’t repeat the same things. Some of the times I had this past year have been some of the lowest of my life, but my hope is not to dwell on those things; but rather reflect and adjust accordingly so that they don’t happen again.

In 2019, I don’t want to make any big resolutions or anything, but I want to affirm put into the universe that I will truly love me first. When I say love me first, I mean set the boundaries I didn’t set, put the intentions out in the world that will help me evolve. I want to say what I want with strength and weight behind it and don’t make bullshit promises to myself. I want to set a goal, a real one and actually put in the work to achieve it. I want to attain the success I know I’m capable of, and stop acting like good things can’t happen to me.

There are a few things I’d like to step out of the box and try, and I’m making it my mission to do those things in 2019. I’ve realized the only thing stopping me is my own apprehension and doubtful energy. So this year, my goal will be to create the right kind of energy spaces for me to evolve and become my best self, because I know I’m destined for things far better than what they have been, and my only goal is to always stay on the grind to achieve that.

With all this being said, I am hopeful for positive energy. I am aiming for a successful year and meaningful transitions. 2018 is a year that broke me down, but 2019 will be the year I am rebuilt and reborn.

  • 1 poetry collection, possibly 2 fiction books

Will you be experimenting with a different genre in 2019?

  • Hmmm….I’m not sure yet, but this might be intriguing

  • I guess i’m going to have to figure that out.

Why fiction?

  • It gives you the opportunity to step into a whole new world.  To be inside my head when I’m writing is truly a sight to see…lol.

What’s your favorite part of writing?

  • Researching how to make my writing worth reading.

Would you ever consider becoming a full-time writer?

  • Yes. It’s actually my ultimate goal.

Not even if the pay is “right?”

  • Yes.  I’m willing to supplement with things that won’t cause me a lot of stress. I’ve had enough professional stress to last me a lifetime.

When writing, do you think about awards, prizes, etc? Or are you focused strictly on the process?

  • I have spoken into existence that I will be a best-selling author one day.  I even want to make my series a movie adaptation.  But for now, I’m focused on the process and getting better.

Of all the books you will write or have written, which book do you think will sell the most copies?

  • I believe book 1 sold a lot.  I’m still a newbie so I am surprised I even sold as many as I did; but I hope to sell more books with my second fiction novel.  Speak positive vibes into the universe and hopefully it shall ring true.

Dear Discovery,

You made it clear that there was so much more that needed to be done. You allowed me to realize that there was so much more potential than what was being presented.

This was a month of evaluation, but it took a totally different turn than expected. What wasn’t expected was to take a break from blogging; the goals that were set were found to be a bit unrealistic because there was some necessary time from creating that needed to happen.

You helped me realize that what I was trying to attain was a level of perfection that I never intended to attain. Taking a moment to dial it back was just what I needed to re-evaluate and come back stronger.

Thank you, hopefully this will set me up to be even better in the months to come.

How to Stay Focused When Your Mind is in Autopilot

Lately, I have been feeling completely out of sync and in a rut creatively and in regards to my productivity.

After some long and much needed self-reflection, I realized that my mind and my body were basically in “autopilot”; meaning I have been merely going through the motions of my day, my routine, my writing, basically everything that I do in my day.  Because I was in a form of  “default mode”, I didn’t really connect with what I was doing and it began to become very overwhelming.

I took a break from writing, editing and blogging last week to give myself some time to spark some new creative ideas and give myself some time away from the pressures of writing and blogging.  It was definitely a much needed moment away from the obligations I have.  Not only did it help me realize what I was going through, but it also helped me recharge my creativity.

When I think more and more about how I’ve been feeling, I also wanted to find out ways that I could combat this “mindless” autopilot feeling whenever it rears its ugly head again.  It’s never fun going through a situation like this, because you find yourself mindlessly living.  You make decisions that may not have the best intentions, you feel stunted and stifled creatively and it can definitely cause a negative effect on your mental and emotional health.

In order for you to be your best self, you have to find ways to keep yourself on point and focused on your daily routine and end the feeling of being mindless and on autopilot.  Here are four ways to keep your mind out of autopilot and staying focused:

  • Set realistic intentions and goals:  When you are setting goals for yourself, you find that you will have something to continue to keep you motivated on a regular basis.  Also, setting intentions (even daily) would also give you a purposeful feeling for your life and your daily routine.
  • Be present: Find ways to be present throughout your day and with stay in tune with people around you.  Doing things to keep your mind on the goals and intentions that you have set, will help you not fall into a trap of mindlessness.
  • Take time to reconnect: There are times when you have to take a little time to yourself if you feel like you are falling into that autopilot mode.  Even a moment as short as five minutes can help snap you out of that blank feeling and get your mind back on track.
  • Do self check-ins: Every now and then you have to take a moment to do a personal audit of your emotions.  Part of holding yourself accountable during moments of autopilot, is knowing when to check-in and make sure you’re not falling to far from your goals.

You are closing out the first quarter of 2018, what do you plan on doing with your month?

What goals do you have set for yourself; are they the same ones you set for yourself at the beginning of the year, or have they evolved?  It is ok if they have changed, nothing in the world is constant.

Don’t beat yourself up if something has not been the same over these past couple of months.  Some things we set out to do did not pan out to be what you intended, but you are still doing GREAT things with the goals you have set in place.

You are in a good place because you have to remember that despite things not being exactly how you planned them to be, you still have not lost sight of your plans; the growth is really showing now.  A year ago, you would have given up on the year already and said “I’m done, this is not going to work for me,” but no, you haven’t done that yet.  That’s growth.

Think about what your goals are and close out your first quarter strong.  Don’t let anything stop you now, you’ve come this far; why let small, petty things get in your way now?
