Was Chris Rock Too Much??

Yes, yes, yes.  I watched the Oscars last night.  I know I may seem like I shouldn’t have, but I did.  I know a lot of my friends who did and a lot who didn’t; and I support all of them.  I just chose to watch it, because I wanted to see what Chris Rock was going to say, and honestly, I wanted to see if Leo would REALLY win an Oscar this year (I mean come on, I’m sure most of the world was wondering this too! Lol).

Anywho, one of the things I wanted to see, was how Chris Rock was going to address the controversy behind the Oscars, and how there was no person of color nominated for any category this year.  I found that to be shocking to say the least. So, with anticipation, I tuned in to see exactly what he was going to say.

I’m actually glad that Chris Rock did address the issue with the Academy and not having any people of color nominated.  Just like I thought he would, he addressed the elephant in the room right up front!  He addressed how this isn’t the first time that people of color have been snubbed on Oscar nominations (which sparked the question of “why boycott now?”), and also how Hollywood is in fact racist on some level.  Most people say he went to far in some areas, and some say he didn’t go far enough. I think he hit the nail on the head with several parts of the conversation.  I’m not going to lie, I think my favorite part is where he threw shade on Jada (because let’s face it, I had my opinion on why she was boycotting in the first place).

Overall, do I think he went too far? Nope. I think he addressed the situation the best and only way Chris Rock could. He made it funny, but he had valid points in his opening, and even continued to throw subtle shots at the Academy during the awards. Salute to Chris Rock for saying what some may have been too afraid to say on stage!
